Mere Mortals Rebranding

Role: Graphic design, Branding, Illustration
Client:
Mere Mortals
Agency: Mere Mortals
Art Director: Robbie Greatrex
Animation: Philippa Brawn

Mere Mortals is an independent creative agency for brands who want to inspire people to action. I have worked on Mere Mortals' rebranding and one of my tasks was to create fun and quirky corporate illustrations that reflect Mere Mortals’ essence and values, while illustrating every aspect of the agency’s work. I have also developed brand identity and brand guidelines. The project got recognised with Silver Award at Creativepool 2024 Annual.

My aim was to show the agency as a collective of strategists, creatives and content creators delivering work that slices through the noise and inspires action, as individuals with a passion to make a positive difference, alongside an appetite to create. I have created over 50 illustrations that were used on the website and socials, in presentation decks, stationery and other brand communications.

Main areas to illustrate were: strategy, creative, production and delivery. I developed a vast range of diverse characters representing different aspects of the studio's work.

Feedback from Creativepool Annual judges:

"A wonderful, ownable and consistent style with a great level of craft and plenty of texture and personality. Compositionally very strong. Clearly lands the concept in a way that nicely elevates something that could be very corporate into a space which is a lot more creative, abstract and ethereal. Love the use of black and white for its versatility and feels very unexpected in a space where artists tend to rely on colour. Really, really, nice work."

"I absolutely love these illustrations. Even though it mentions corporate it really communicates the collection of strategists, creatives and content creators. It has a picasso-esque feel to it. The black and white palette is effective and feels like very good idea scribbles. The 50's/60's style textures and gradients are fantastic - great work."

"I really gravitated to this entry as although they were taking quite an abstract concept they have managed to make it tangible and engaging. It has a really standout and striking appeal through the style but also the choice of black and white. I really appreciated that there is a reason behind choosing black and white for its versatility of use too, so they can be more flexible and paired with other colours and assets. Great work and really brought a smile when I saw this which is always great to see illustration evoking a reaction!"

I have used Pro Create for roughs, then built the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, adding hand-printed monotype textures for extra richness and depth.
